Spruce York celebrates its one-year anniversary and continues to partner with local businesses.

SPRUCE YORK are celebrating their first birthday, having successfully grown their local business throughout the pandemic. The eco-homewares and upcycling business was started by University of Lincoln, B.A. Business Management and Marketing graduate, Rebecca Ross, in 2019. As the COVID-19 pandemic has ensured that we spend more time at home, Spruce’s bespoke Yorkshire made gifts, homewares, and ceramics are the perfect products to style your home whilst supporting the environment. 

Founder of Spruce York, Rebecca Ross said, “We’re a small company who want to have a positive impact on the environment changing from single-use to care-and-conserve, making our own homewares and gifts and showcasing these alongside many amazing handmade products from local artists and makers from our region. Creating a place for people across the UK to buy from independent Yorkshire-based makers and artists has been such a great experience so far.”

“We’re so pleased that our customers share our values since our launch in 2019, and despite the difficulty of COVID-19, we will launch new products in 2021 that remain eco-friendly and upcycled.” 

Taking inspiration from the city of York, its countryside, and nearby beaches, our products use only natural materials and absolutely no plastic. Rebecca creates many of the items herself and also works alongside various local suppliers to stock beautiful cards, wrapping paper, ceramics, and wooden homewares online and at local markets and events.

Spruce York are proud to have their handmade eco-homewares stocked in small Yorkshire-based businesses such as Walter & May on Bishopthorpe Road in York, Lots of Love Gift Shop in Fulford and The Boston Tea Party in Boston Spa. 

Rebecca said, ‘’Our first year has been a steep learning curve having to adapt to the challenges of running a small business during the ongoing pandemic. Like many businesses, we’ve had to move to online-only whilst many of our events, markets, and many of the small shops we stock in have had to close throughout parts of the year.”

For 2021, Spruce York are hoping to continue to expand and include even more lovely handmade Yorkshire products. Championing Yorkshire as a beautiful place to live and work and committing to making products that are made locally, sustainably, and are cherished for years to come.

Spruce York are hoping to be at the following events before Christmas: The Little Bird Artisan Market at Langthorpe Farm Shop, Boroughbridge on Saturday the 5th of December from 10am-3pm, and to finish the year, they shall be at Spark in York city centre for Thirty11Events’ Christmas markets on the 6th and 20th of December from 12-4pm.
